The folks at WordPress are preparing to release version 2.5 next month. The new version features a major overhaul to the administrative back-end of the system with an all-new Dashboard, media uploader, write dialog screen and other nice little bells and whistles.
But you don’t have to wait for a full month to find out what changes are in store thanks to this Morning’s Must Read. Chris Johnson has set up a demo site for WP 2.5 where everyone can give it a whirl. Login with username admin and password demo.
UPDATE: Lorelle has more on the new features of WordPress 2.5.

Just got done playing with it. I like the media addition. I think that will be handy when adding my tutorials. I’m not fond of the layout but that’s to be expected when something new comes out I guess. What did you think of it?

To be honest, aside from the Media library I don’t see that much of a difference. Oh, sure, things have been moved from the right-hand sidebar to bars at the bottom of the page, and there’s a lot of orange on there instead of just blue and white.
I hope there’s more to it than that, though. Particularly since I spent over 6 hours this past weekend upgrading plug-ins on all of my blogs that were rendered outdated by the last WP upgrade.
I am not a big fan of upgrades to any software.
I abhor change!
I am kidding (sort of), but unless there is some serious added value to the new and improved version, I hate the hassle (such as, upgrading plug-ins).
But, I guess that is the nature of computer programs.
I agree with you, Kate, I didn’t see anything really new. I guess I will have to wait and see how I like it when I am using it for my own blogs.

I hope they’re planning to add more than cosmetic changes, otherwise I doubt that I’ll bother with the upgrade until two upgrades after that one.
And another thing: I hope they return to displaying posts that are in draft mode above the list of other posts. I used to be able to go to Dashboard -> Write -> Post and see a list of my draft or future-scheduled entries above the others.
Now? Now I have to do all of that plus filter based on the post status. It might seem like a piddling thing, but when you do it 5x per day for 5 blogs it gets to be a real PAIN in the ass.
