Manage Affiliate Links With WordPress Affiliate Pro
Filed in Make Money Blogging
This site covers how to start a blog, build traffic and make money blogging. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
There are, ultimately, two ways to make money with your blog:
1. By writing your little heart out; and/or
2. Through advertising.
The key to making #2 work is, ironically enough, doing #1 since writing your little heart out will bring traffic, and traffic’s essential to making money through advertising.
I’ve been writing my little heart out for a while on 5 separate blogs and, let me just tell you, it’s a lot of work. I’m tired. I’ll feel less tired in the morning, no doubt, but tomorrow night I’ll be tired again. Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary to continue making #2 happen.
The fact that I can’t, despite my best efforts, find an additional 8 hours in the day between homeschooling my son, writing my blogs and keeping a reasonably decent house and marriage is exactly why I’ve been exploring affiliate opportunities of late. By the end of my first day, however, I found it impossible to keep mental track of the various affiliate programs and links I’m involved with. (Hence my sudden desire to purge my wall of sticky notes, I suppose.)
Today I ran across a WordPress plugin that made many of those sticky notes unnecessary. I no longer have to mentally keep track of which affiliate links I’m running on which blog, much less how they’re performing and whether it’s time to change them out.
I found WP Affiliate Pro, an easily-installed plugin that automatically replaces my chosen keywords with the affiliate links I’ve selected. BOOM! Instant stress-relief. Better yet: WP Affiliate Pro also keeps track of clicks for me, which means that I can compare my own records with various’ companies reports. I love that — I’m one of those types who feels the need to be “in the loop” when it comes to managing the money I make blogging.
WP Affiliate Pro isn’t free. It runs around $97, as a matter of fact. But it’s worth every penny.
How do I know?
Well, because I spent all of 1 hour today adding affiliate links on my various blogs and I’ve already made back the money I spent on it. Meanwhile, I know that next year I’ll be able to write it off as one of my blog-related tax deductions.
Sweet.

I can’t believe how simple it is to install and use, or just how quickly it made a difference!
I use aLinks at Headzoo which does pretty much the same thing, but I think it’s a bit more versatile. Plus it’s free.

I wonder if maybe I’m just choosing the wrong affiliates, because I have made almost no money at all from any of them. I have a badge for The FIRM workouts from Good Times Entertainment through LinkShare, and I’ve made about $20 total. You say you made back the $97 in an hour? Could you share some tips with me?

Glad you asked, Elizabeth. I’ve got a whole series of tips on that very subject scheduled for next week!
