DOHI decided to take advantage of the long 3-day weekend to clean my office. It was long overdue. My collection of books on marketing, copywriting, advertising and computers had grown from one stack to four, all of which were gathering dust because I’ve been too busy with online projects to actually crack open an old-fashioned book.

To top it off, I have a habit of leaving sticky note reminders to myself all over my office wall. (My husband likes to call that my “white trash wallpaper”.) Thumbtacked to the wall — sometimes right on top of the sticky notes — are bills to pay, papers to file and (much to my surprise) a Google AdSense check I’d completely forgotten about. A nice one, too.

Bright and early Saturday morning I resolved to do something about the clutter. I grabbed a trash bag and began peeling the sticky notes off the wall, tossing those which were clearly outdated or illegible. I boxed up an entire shelf full of fantasy paperbacks and moved the work-related books off my floor and onto the newly-cleaned shelf. I even deposited that check from Google. (Yippee!)

In my zeal to imbue a Zen-like tranquility to my office (a goal I’ve since abandoned), I also managed to toss away the sticky note where I’d been keeping a list of things you’ve asked me to write about. And, no, I didn’t have the foresight to have added them to a “To Do” list on my computer… but I’ll definitely be doing that from now on.

So, if you’ve requested info on a certain topic, would you mind reminding me about it in the comments to this entry? I’ll try to tackle them in the order received below along with the other subjects on my mental list of things to blog about here at BFTM.

Meanwhile, does anyone have a good recommendation for removing the brown, gummy dredges left behind from sticky notes that have been hanging on a wall for, oh, three years?

I have to say that I have never had sticky notes up for three years, but try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Those things remove everything. (Test on inconspicuous spot first, of course.)

I asked about hosts… if you’d write about the importance of a good one and the moving process, if you have any tips…

Oh, and I just found some good plugins to facilitate a WP permalink restructure [which is coming up for me as well] HERE.

Lighter fluid will remove adhesive, but I don’t know what it would do to the wall. You could always roll it out; take an hour or so…

Excellent, Pam. I’ve added that to the online “To Blog” list. Thanks for the reminder. Meanwhile, I’ve written about how to know when you need a new host. I’ll pull some info together for you on what to look for and how to make it a (surprisingly) easy transition.

Congrats on both the tidying up and the check :)
As for the sticky residue, I suggest trying a small bit of nail polish remover. Try it somewhere first to make sure it doesn’t take the paint too! But, this stuff will take away super glue, so I imagine it will work on old sticky post-it glue too.

Checks are always good. Well, unless they’re from that guy in Nigeria who wants me to provide all of my bank info before he’ll send me one. Bah.

Oddly enough, I went 4+ years running adsense on one of my blogs before ever getting my first check last November. To have received another one in January made me rather happy, since AdSense is my worst performer.

That Magic Eraser suggestion of Charity’s worked like a charm! I’m glad, too. I can’t stand the smell of nail polish remover. Ptooey!
