Find Out How Popular Your Blog Is

This site covers how to start a blog, build traffic and make money blogging. If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Since so many bloggers don’t understand how and why to use trackbacks, it’s always a good idea to use other ways to learn about who’s linking your site.
Most bloggers know to create a Google Alert that will email them when their site is mentioned, but even that method has its flaws. Today I had a reminder of just how flawed those alerts can be. See, I have one set up for each of my blogs and, in theory, I should receive an alert whenever I’m linked. In practice, it’s an entirely different story.
So imagine my surprise when I received an email from a service I haven’t even signed up with, ://URLFan. The alert informed me that Electric Venom was linked several days ago by a high-traffic blog I actually read fairly regularly. I hadn’t even seen the link there!
Turns out, ://URLFan tracks all domain mentions and ranks traffic much the same way that Alexa does. There’s one difference, though: Alexa only uses certain sources to count visits while ://URLFan uses concrete data including real-time traffic, incoming links and feeds, then compares that to the rest of the blogosphere.
Currently, ://URLFan is reading 1,301,584 feeds; parsing 73,555,094 posts; and ranking 1,515,000 domains with the numbers constantly growing. (You can check EV’s ranking here.)
For those who’ve been wondering how their blog measures up to others, or just for a way to stay on top of who’s saying what about their site, this looks to be another great resource to add to your list.
